Wow, today was the best in a while. Got into gear just after sunrise and never looked back.

First it was basketball at Jungle's Gym. Later it was running through Old Town. Finally it was coaches' training at the Lee Center. Somewhere in between it all I thought about how brand new bath towels would be nice this year, but we'll see.

Tell you a little something about the University of Arizona. Its website, Arizona.edu is the 312th most-visited domain.

My friend and neighbor on the second floor, Rob, studied there. So did his wife, who used to run distance and who used to smoke. I gather she does a little of both now but not much.

Rob studied chemistry at Arizona. Dana, a girl I knew from AP chemistry, went to Arizona, too.

And so did a guy I raced up and down a mountain at midnight back in September. His Arizona cross country team won Pac Tens several years ago. And that night he beat me by a second or so, though the competition wasn't pure.

Rob is cool and Dana was, too. I'd stop just short of calling this other guy a prick.

If you ever come to Alexandria look out for the coppers up and down Eisenhower Avenue. Sometimes they troll near Foster's Grille with lights flashing authority glory. And they sometimes sit near the batting cages lights off radar on. I often see them killing the night shift out back at the DMV. Must be a good place for bacon to cool.

Good thing it is. One too-early morning the lab belonging to the golden girl on the first floor was bitching a terrible fit. No one answered my knock except the beast so I alerted the coppers at the DMV. Shift's up soon they said. We'll tell the boys coming on. I feigned concern for the old lady. She lives alone and you can plainly see through the window her place is in disarray. We'll take a look they said.

The last thing I heard before I fell back asleep was barking. The second to last thing was animal patrol talking over tranq options.

The other day The Boss came back with a six pack of High Life for me. So far, I'm pacing my way through it. There are still four left. I gave one to Weed and one to Cat. Every day when I grab my Dreamsicle yogurt from the fridge I look at my beers and think it's good to be king.
