Sags was sociable. After the Reds and Nationals game, he and I took the Orange Line to Ballston, the nearest stop to Karin's birthday party.
We walked and talked a long time before we found the place. Sags mentioned the upcoming Capital Pride weekend. He was excited and nervous about it.
The party had beer, music, cake, and a trampoline. I was excessive and Sags was moderate, but we both had fun. He left by himself a couple hours before me. It was a mile or so back to the Metro. I regret not going with him.

Sags was easygoing. And he liked blue grass music. That's what he told me the night we went out on Old Town. It was Christmas Break and we wanted to catch up and have a good time.
We started out at Tiffany Tavern and listened to City Farm, a band that plays Fridays and some Saturdays. This was Saturday, January 9th, according to my credit card statement.
Next, we went to Light Horse, but we were on the early side. I was hoping to play wing for Sags, but frankly, there weren't any good lookers out. One woman maybe in her 30's approached us and slurred it's a shame she had to leave because she certainly liked the looks of us. We laughed about it later, but Sags was a little uncomfortable at the time. Of course, I didn't know. I regret being oblivious.

Sags was excitable. A lot of us have great party memories of him singing. One (perhaps the most) memorable night, he put a lot of passion into "Maps" while playing Rock Band.
Listen to the song. Every time she sings the word "maps," replace it with "Sags."

Sags was Bryce's good buddy. They were steeple mates and accordingly, training partners. He told Bryce before he told most of his other friends.
One afternoon this past summer we all canoed down Rhode River to the Cheasapeake Bay. With birds of prey circling above in the sunny sky, Bryce and Sags rowed together, smooth and strong. They looked invincible.
When Bryce called me all torn up, that's what hurts.

Listen, if today hadn't been such an alright day, I wouldn't bother telling you about it. One of the high points was a bowl of Lucky Charms for breakfast. Plus a couple extra handfuls before putting the box back on the shelf. One of the low points was combining cranberry juice and lime syrup in a homemade snowcone.
Another disappointing moment was when a driver turned in front of me while I was running on the sidewalk. Had I not halted we would have certainly collided. I let him know with a smack against his back window. He jumped out and had words for me, so maybe he'll remember the incident in the proximity of runners. I still recall that his navy hatchback had a standard Virginia license plate, a boxer pup in the back passenger-side seat, and a single red, white, and black bumper sticker (left of center, just above bumper).

It wasn't so long ago that I took stock of beverages and such in the fridge. We've got cranberry juice, Diet Cokes with Lime, water in a Brita, water in bottles, two large cartons of OJ, a full gallon of milk, a couple cartons of chicken broth, a 32 oz. Gatorade (blue), a case of Natural Light and one can of Bud Light. And we have some lemoncello from Italy. I just poked my head back in there and saw beef broth and box wine on the bottom shelf. There's another can of Bud Light out in the car we should add to the mix.

Wow, Beirne treated us all to Ernie's today. That Beirne, he's a heck of a guy. That Ernie, well, he's dead.
But his restaurant lives on. In the men's restroom is a photo of two naked children's backsides. The kids are dipping their feet in a swimming pool. The caption says "Jeff and Cindy have known each other a long time... And they're finally getting married." Presumably Jeff runs Ernie's. And Jeff's alright by me.
